October Currently

Hi everyone!

I am linkin' up with Farley at Oh' Boy 4th Grade for this months "currently". Am I the only one who absolutely adores these?!

I am currently listening to about 10 kiddos play on the iPad...sounds like a piano app..."The Eye of the Tiger". I am in charge of morning care. The great thing about it is I can get work done while they just relax on iPads. The not-so-great part is I had to get used to getting to work at 7:15am instead of 8:00am. At least the productive side of me actually gets stuff done!

I am super excited for today to be over...not because it is a bad day or anything...but because I fly to Chicago in the morning! One of our good friends is getting married. I can't wait to see all my friends and family. It has been almost a year!

Yes, I have learned two things about hot yoga...
1. Mascara will not last past the first minute. I scrub, scrub, scrub my make up off before I go, but I always manage to look like a have black tears running all over.
2. Two times in one week is BRUTAL.

Ummmm...have you all read "Gone Girl" yet??? This book was one of the best books I have read in a long time. I usually do not go for the suspense books, but after reading this, I must see the movie!

Do you all get a fall break?....WE DO! :) A WHOLE WEEK! and it is one week from now. YAY! {Insert "It's the Final Countdown...do, do, doooo, do"!}

TRICK!

Do you have a talkative line or chit chats during transitions?

I project our sight words or quick math fluency on my white board. Kids are only allowed to say the word they see or answer to the math fact. It gets them focused on the bored and not on their friends!

If you are not lucky enough to have a projector, then shout a number to start skip counting by. My kiddos whisper the numbers until they have fully transitioned or are in line.  I did not have a projector the past two years, but this worked like a charm!

Have a happy and terrific Thursday!

  1. Gone Girl is then next book I am going to read! Hope the movie is good too, but it won't be as good as the book, I'm sure! I'm your newest follower.

    1. I am so excited about! Let me know if you see the movie and watch you think. :) I started a little "teacher book club" and that was one of our options!

  2. That is such a great tip (trick) for transitions! Hope you have a great time in Chicago (we're trying to plan a family trip there in the next few months - hockey game for the hubs and American Girl store for the girls ... and hopefully some shopping for mom). ;) PS - LOVED Gone Girl so much I went out and bought 2 more books by the author. LOVED them all!

  3. I LOVED Gone Girl! Just like Jen, I bought two more books by the author as well. I'm always in search of a good book to read (and time to read) which I'm going to have more of on FALL BREAK! Yay! Have fun at your friend's wedding and hang in there until Fall Break! Go, teachers, go!

    1. How were the other two books? I kinda want to get them! I started a little "online-teacher-book club" if you want to join! I am trying to make more time for me, and I love having other teachers to read and sip wine with via online. :)

  5. That's a great trick -- thank you! I'm definitely going to try it with my chatty classes.

One of my friends at school is really into hot yoga, but if I went it would just provide comedic relief for everyone else. I can't even do "cold" yoga... :)

I can't wait to see Gone Girl! I typically hate books-turned-movies, but I'm really excited to see this, for some reason. I read somewhere that they changed the ending just a bit (thank goodness!) to keep people who've already read the book on their toes. I'm interested to see how they changed it... a little closure would be nice!

    1. I can only do hot yoga once a week...did it twice last week and I am pretty sure my body is still punishing me. lol

What did you think of the ending of "Gone Girl"? I was so mad that I googled it. I thought I skipped a chapter or got a misprinted book! Haha!

    1. Omg...the smells are terrible! ICK! I just love getting a chance to sit and not here voices for 80 minutes. :) I am probably a freak for thinking it is relaxing! lol

  9. I think I might die if I did hot yoga. No joke. I admire you for doing it! I need to do yoga and know it is good for me! But I think I might get sick in hot yoga.
I have not read Gone Girl, but now I think I am going too! I have been feeling stressed a bit lately and I love to read - I think getting lost in a suspenseful book would be good for me! The trick is to find the time to start it (and then not stay up all night reading it!)
But I should do it before the movie!
Fall break?? I want one. But we start pretty late up here in WA (kinder only started on Sept 8) so I can't complain and shouldn't be wanting one yet! When do you start?

    1. I had to make a serious effort to fit in reading again. I am trying really hard to balance my whole life this year. I have been way to devoured by work the past couple of years.

We started the first week of August. Saying I need a break is an understatement. I can't wait to do nothing! :) I can hear the pool calling my name. :)
